About the role
Under direction, drives or rides an ambulance to provide emergency medical treatment at the scene and during transport to the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Answers all calls for emergency medical treatment.
- Drives ambulance to required location, parks in a safe location, and ensures a safe traffic environment by placing road flares, removing debris, and redirecting traffic.
- Determines the nature and extent of injury and establishes priorities for emergency care.
- Administers emergency care such as opening and maintaining an airway, giving positive pressure ventilation, and performing cardio-resuscitation.
- Stops bleeding using bandaging or tourniquets, treats shock, immobilizes fractures, and provides initial care for poisoned and burn patients.
Requirements
- Current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Health.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
- Position is on-site; no remote work provisions.
