About the role

Under direction, drives or rides an ambulance to provide emergency medical treatment at the scene and during transport to the hospital.

Responsibilities

• Answers all calls for emergency medical treatment.
• Drives ambulance to required location, parks in a safe location, and ensures a safe traffic environment by placing road flares, removing debris, and redirecting traffic.
• Determines the nature and extent of injury and establishes priorities for emergency care.
• Administers emergency care such as opening and maintaining an airway, giving positive pressure ventilation, and performing cardio-resuscitation.
• Stops bleeding using bandaging or tourniquets, treats shock, immobilizes fractures, and provides initial care for poisoned and burn patients.

Requirements

• Current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Health.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• Position is on-site; no remote work provisions.
