About the role
The EMT-Paramedic is responsible for the working knowledge of ambulances, emergency equipment, medications, and supplies used on each ambulance. They maintain all units, ensuring equipment is clean and in working order, and keep the ambulance service headquarters clean and orderly. The EMT-Paramedic adheres to the departmental dress code policy.
Additional responsibilities include acting as an Emergency Department Technician, performing duties within their approved scope. The EMT-Paramedic must obtain continuing education units for recertification as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health and complete a skills checklist developed by the resource hospital. They must follow patient care policies and procedures established by Wabash General Hospital, Wabash General Ambulance Service, and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Course as outlined by the Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
- Current Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic licensure in the State of Illinois and National Registry.
- ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS/ITLS Certification.
- Professional CPR Certification.
- One year of EMT experience preferred.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License with proper classification.
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
Schedule
May be required to work any day of the week, including holidays and weekends. Employees are required to work 2-3 24-hour shifts per week (21-day rotation).
