EMT - Medical Transport - Full Time - Hours Vary

About the Role

This position is under the direct supervision of the Medical Transport Supervisor. The role requires knowledge of treatment and stabilization of all patients, as well as definitive techniques within the scope of practice and limitations of certification, governed by the Department of Public Health. The employee will care for patients across all age groups: neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Clinical duties must adhere to population-specific guidelines and comply with the Georgia Department of Public Health, as outlined by the Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma.

Requirements

  • State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Approved by the State of Georgia Department of Public Health, including emergency vehicle operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional certifications or licensures beyond the minimum requirements.

Skills and Abilities

  • Competent in administering epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylaxis.
  • Proficient in performing pulse oximetry and blood glucose measurements and interpretation.
  • Can administer pre-measured unit doses of nebulized bronchodilator.
  • Competent in administering oxygen using nasal cannula or mask (excluding High Flow Nasal Cannula).
  • May serve as the primary patient caregiver during transport.
  • Knowledgeable of laws pertaining to emergency vehicle operation.
  • Operates NGHS vehicles within NGHS standards and Georgia laws.
  • Maintains all certifications required by law and department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency medicine relative to pre-hospital treatment of sick and injured patients, ensuring consistent care delivery.
  • Ensures the emergency vehicle is clean, decontaminated, fueled, and fully stocked at all times.
  • Accounts for all equipment on the ambulance and retrieves any equipment left at the hospital.
  • Maintains compliance with all mandatory NGHS education.
  • Uses sound judgment in resolving problems via the chain of command and the NGHS Safety Tool Kit.
  • Dresses in appropriate uniform attire.
  • Uses radio communication professionally and as directed.
  • Completes documentation accurately and expeditiously within Medical Transport standards.
