About the role
The Health Technician I / EMT position at Horizon Services Inc. is a part-time role located at the Mission Street Recovery Station in San Jose, CA. This position requires a valid California EMT certification and is available on-call, with shifts ranging from 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM, 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM, and 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM as needed, including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Screen clients for potential medical and/or mental health problems meeting 5150 criteria.
- Maintain records of client's medication in a logbook and electronic health record (EHR) system (if applicable).
- Provide medical and/or mental health care within scope of practice.
- Monitor and document withdrawal symptoms and mental health symptoms.
- Create a welcoming environment for participants.
- Respond to crises, emergencies, and other client needs in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Provide transportation as necessary and when requested.
- Work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team at the Recovery Station.
- Maintain and update client files (EHR if applicable) for errors, corrections, and updates.
- Collaborate with Lead Nurse Coordinator and/or LVN to reduce excessive Emergency Room visits for medication clearances.
- Support in keeping a clean and safe environment.
- Document all medical concerns and observations in client file (EHR if applicable) and give verbal reports to Detox staff upon transferring a client to Detox from Sobering if applicable.
Qualifications
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the State of California.
- CPR/First Aid certified.
- Must have a valid California driver's license and good driving record in good standing.
- Must be able to work weekends and have an active California EMT certificate.
Skills
- Strong computer skills, data input and monitoring.
- Demonstrated confidence working with EHR systems (Welligent).
- Safeguard EHR privacy and confidentiality.
- Experience with working with SUD and/or MH clients in a residential setting.
- Able to remain emotionally stable when faced with hostility or aggression.
- Able to time manage and prioritize.
- Able to deliver quality care to diverse populations, cultures, and clients with co-occurring disorders in a supportive manner.

Pay
$27.00-$29.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
