Department
Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care is a fast-paced environment providing high quality care to pediatric patients. We are uniquely equipped to treat all levels of injuries and illnesses from earaches to major traumas. We are the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Denver Metro Area. Staffed with all levels of pediatric providers and experienced nurses, it is a great environment to grow the skills of new nurses. We are an essential link in the pediatric chain of care and work closely with both our inpatient pediatric and ICU teams and community pediatric care centers.
Job Summary
Under direct supervision of the RN, APP and/or physician, provides patient care in accordance with treatment plans. Communicates changes in patient conditions within the scope of practice to RN. Collaborates with the RN and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in patient care activities.
Essential Functions
Assists the RN in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Acts appropriately in critical situations. (30%)
Obtains vital signs and differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN. (EX. Abnormal VS, bleeding, safety concerns, family issues. (20%))
Under direct supervision of the RN and as delegated by the physician, implements care based on prioritized patient needs, assists with the plan of care with measurable outcome and goals for the patient/family, and participates in the discharge planning process. (20%)
Affords assistance with the care coordination and safe transportation of patients through the ED visit. Is able to transport low risk monitored patients through the hospital. (15%)
Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transporting patients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, blood products, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requested departments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system to transport items, including blood products and medications, to and from the tube and the desired location. (15%)
Education
High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience
No previous experience required.
Licenses
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
EMT - CO - State of Colorado Required and
IV Authorization certification approved by CDPHE - CDPHE - Colorado Department of Public Safety Required or
AEMT-EMT Advanced - CO - State of Colorado Required or
EMTP-EMT Paramedic - CO - State of Colorado Required
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of Emergency Department practices.
Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Strong communication and interpersonal skill set required.
Documentation of completed tasks, vital signs, procedures and notes in EHR.
Documentation of patient safety observation in accordance with DH’s policies and procedures.
