About the role

The EMT Dispatcher is a critical role in emergency medical services for a 162-acre, 800+ resident and patient community. This position involves coordinating and dispatching first responders to emergency calls and providing immediate medical assistance. The role requires excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational skills to ensure timely and effective responses while delivering boutique-level services. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and goals of Hebrew Senior Life, recognizing members’ dignity and choice in daily life. Responsibilities

  • Receive emergency calls from individuals in need of medical assistance, remaining calm and composed while gathering essential information.
  • Determine the nature and severity of medical emergencies to prioritize responses.
  • Use computer-aided dispatch systems (MaxtrixCare, Meditech, Ciscor OneSource, RoamAlert, Premysys, exacqVision CCTV, iTrak logging system) to assign staff to emergency and support calls.
  • Evaluate available resources, such as the closest available officer, to optimize response times.
  • Coordinate multiple emergency calls simultaneously, prioritizing critical situations.
  • Relay critical information to EMTs, paramedics, and other first responders via phone and radio, keeping them updated as situations evolve.
  • Offer medical guidance and support to callers until EMS units arrive.
  • Maintain accurate records of emergency calls, responses, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services and agencies during major incidents.
  • Make quick and effective decisions to deploy appropriate resources based on the severity and type of emergency.
  • Prioritize calls and allocate resources based on urgency.
  • Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when dealing with distressed callers, providing reassurance and clear instructions.
  • Stay up-to-date with protocols, procedures, and relevant READ FILE guidelines.
  • Handle unexpected situations and adapt to changing circumstances during emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require additional education).
  • Proficient in using computer-aided dispatch systems and other communication tools like VoiceFriend.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight.
  • Clean criminal background and drug screening.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • First Responder certification required.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to perform extensive walking patrols of the campus when needed.

Pay

$19.67 - $27.53 per hour

Schedule

On-site role with shifts including:

  • Sunday: Day Shift, 6:30am - 3pm
  • Friday: Swing Shift, 2:30pm – 11pm
