EMS Lab Assistant, PT

Colorado Mountain College requires that employees perform their assigned duties within the State of Colorado. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and three years of related experience, or equivalent education (e.g., a college-issued certificate of proficiency or higher in relevant healthcare-related course study, such as a COP in EMS).
• State of Colorado EMT-B Certificate and competency in all BLS skills required (or a current NREMT certification that enables state certification).
• Additional preferred qualifications: AHA BLS Instructor, Wilderness EMT Upgrade, AEMT, or paramedic certification.
• Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
• Effective communication skills in person, via telephone, and radio, with competency in emergency communication language, protocol, and procedure.
• Ability to use medical equipment relevant to the area(s).
• Ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, and students as a team member.
• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor equipment inventory, clean, and organize equipment.
• Assist faculty with skill demonstrations on how to properly perform EMS skills as directed by the lead instructor of the course.
• Create an environment in the learning lab and classroom setting that supports student learning and the achievement of course objectives and program outcomes.
• Foster a positive learning environment by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating respect for students.
• Stimulate student interest and encourage student involvement.
• Assist faculty in preparing course supplemental materials and supplies, including preparing equipment and course materials.
• Provide individual oversight to students for remediation of technical skills when requested by faculty or student.
• Work within specific guidelines and directions of the Lead EMS Instructor and Direct Supervisor CTE or designated campus personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Constant sitting; occasional walking, standing, and driving.
• Occasional handling of objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
• Constant written and oral communication; occasional reasoning, analyzing, and performing calculations.
• Daily use of a computer and standard office equipment; occasional driving of a vehicle (including ambulances for simulation and training purposes).
• Ability to carry out duties and functions of a typical EMT in a simulation environment or in certain real-life aspects, including:
  • Lifting, carrying, and balancing up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance).
  • Interpreting written, oral, and diagnostic form instructions.
  • Using good judgment and remaining calm in high-stress situations.
  • Working effectively in environments with loud noises and flashing lights.
  • Functioning efficiently throughout an entire work shift under threatening time constraints and adverse conditions.
  • Calculating weight and volume ratios.
  • Reading small print, English language manuals, and road maps.
  • Accurately discerning street signs and address numbers.
  • Interviewing patients, family members, and bystanders.
  • Documenting relevant information in prescribed formats in light of legal ramifications.
  • Conversing in English with coworkers and hospital staff regarding patient status.
• Good manual dexterity to perform tasks related to high-quality patient care.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain.
• Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and moisture.
• Ability to work in low-light, confined spaces, and other dangerous environments.
• Full vision capabilities, ordinary talking, and hearing.

Pay

The hiring pay rate is $41.36 per hour. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. The final rate will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Schedule

This is a part-time position limited to 28 hours per CMC’s workweek (Saturday through Friday).
