About the role

As a HIKE volunteer, you will work one-on-one with students in grades K-8 who are improving their reading skills. Your role includes helping students gain confidence, succeed in school, and envision new possibilities for their future.

Responsibilities

  • Work one-on-one with students in grades K-8 to improve their reading skills
  • Provide support and encouragement during reading sessions
  • Adapt lessons based on individual student needs
  • Attend training sessions to learn effective teaching strategies
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities

Requirements

  • Flexible availability to meet the needs of the program
  • Ability to commit to 1 hour per week
  • Pass a background check
  • Attend an orientation session

Qualifications

  • No prior teaching experience required
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with children
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
