About the role
Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking an Employment Specialist to join our team. This role reports to the Director/Workforce Readiness Coordinator and focuses on assisting clients in obtaining employment by connecting them with jobs, educational opportunities, and training resources.
Responsibilities
- Interact professionally and respectfully with clients, staff, and community members.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences, and training sessions.
- Develop and maintain a resource file of prospective employers based on local workforce needs and client skills.
- Establish and maintain contacts with employers, community-based organizations, and other groups promoting job development.
- Create a resource file on educational opportunities, including Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, vocational training, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and two- and four-year colleges.
- Conduct career counseling and vocational assessments for clients.
- Meet with unemployed clients to assess employment prospects, assist in setting work-related goals, and link them with potential employers and training resources.
- Conduct telephone job verification for clients in accordance with funding source requirements.
- Notify the funding source in writing of each client's employment status.
- Visit work sites as required by the funding source.
- Conduct job readiness and job retention classes.
- Participate in all team meetings.
- Complete all necessary documentation in compliance with funding source requirements and organizational policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, sit, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to smell, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Regularly required to lift and move up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly required to see clearly at close distances and observe surroundings while focusing on a fixed point.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in a Human Service field.
- Experience in vocational counseling and job placement.
- Career networking and knowledge of the local labor market preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact appropriately with clientele.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Must pass a criminal background check as required by the funding source.
