About the role
The employment specialist enhances vocational skills and job readiness for individuals in the community pre-vocational and supported employment programs. They assist in developing work readiness skills and maintaining employment.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for individuals.
- Provides direct care and supervision to individuals according to agency policy.
- Participates in Life Plan meetings and establishes appropriate volunteer and work sites.
- Safely transports individuals as needed and assists with specific tasks as per the Individual Treatment Plan.
- Completes required paperwork and ensures compliance with OPWDD and Medicaid billing standards.
- Builds community relationships and helps individuals access community resources.
- Monitors individuals' progress at volunteer sites and employment locations.
- Supports individuals at jobsites and ensures their success.
- Maintains appropriate boundaries and adheres to the DSP Code of Ethics.
- Meets OPWDD Core Competency standards and completes required trainings.
- Engages in all living unit, service, and department planning and participates in activities and committees.
- Communicates effectively with other disciplines, internal and external Service Providers, and families as appropriate.
- Completes monthly reports and engages in appropriate workplace conversations.
- Supports Quality Assurance Quality Improvement directives.
- Completes all assigned tasks and assists with supervision as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience working with individuals with varying disabilities
- Valid NYS Driver's license with a clean MVR
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and schedule time efficiently
- Ability to write legibly and communicate effectively
- Ability to perform physical interventions
Pay
$18.00-$20.00 per hour
