About the role

The Employment Specialist provides case management and employment training services to program participants in the DC Metropolitan Area. This includes assisting participants to identify barriers to employment, securing services to reduce those barriers, meeting emergency needs, job development and placement, job coaching, and providing on-the-job supports.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a Work Adjustment curriculum for adults with developmental disabilities and other significant barriers to employment, focusing on work-related skills and soft skills training such as resume writing, interviewing, and interpersonal communication.
  • Create and teach employment-related, educational, and informative programs during Job Club, with the ability to amend curriculum within established guidelines.
  • Provide case management and wrap-around supportive services, including consistent follow-up to identify barriers and assist participants in accomplishing goals.
  • Assist participants in acquiring appropriate documentation and identification for employment, and address travel needs for interviews, training, and emergencies.
  • Identify and develop internships, training, and employment opportunities with employers, corporations, and agencies to foster community inclusion.
  • Develop jobs through online searches, job interviews, One Stop Systems, cold calling, and community-based job banks.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with program staff, referring agencies, family members, and support persons to address participants' needs.
  • Provide on-the-job support and follow-up to ensure successful employment outcomes.
  • Conduct situational assessments and evaluations of participants' work adjustment and on-the-job training.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports and meet established deadlines.
  • Provide counseling and client intervention as needed.
  • Transport participants to and from job-related activities using an authorized Agency Vehicle.
  • Provide travel training on public transportation to and from program, volunteer, or employment sites.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of work experience specific to developmental disabilities, with one year preferably in employment services.
  • Case management experience a plus.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook 365, Excel, and web browsing.
  • Valid, local driver’s license with a clean driving record; use of personal automobile for job development and case management is required.
