About the role

The Employment Counselor advises customers on job search methods and job interview processes. They also review and analyze customer information through records, tests, and interviews to appraise interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics. This includes conducting RESEA reviews, assessing customer needs, and developing career action plans.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct RESEA reviews which include intensive one-on-one career plan and job search reviews.
  • Advises customers on job search methods, job interview processes, and social problem-solving techniques.
  • Reviews and analyzes customer information to determine eligibility for agency programs and services and to set appropriate vocational, educational, and training goals.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of each customer, utilizing labor market information and resume reviews to determine marketability and develop career action plans.
  • Works with customers to identify training needs and participates in a team approach to determine suitability for WIOA and TRADE funded training programs.
  • Maintains ongoing customer contact for at least 30 days to monitor job search and training progress until employment is achieved.
  • Conducts workshops and seminars such as Career Center Seminars, resume writing, and interviewing.
  • Maintains and documents all services and notes in the Massachusetts One Stop Employment System database for monitoring, review, and compliance.
  • Affords assistance in the certification of eligibility for customers to enroll into WIOA, TRADE, National Emergency Grants, and specialty-funded services.
  • Verifies all documents and records to ensure proper justification for monitoring and compliance with DOL regulations and Agency policies and procedures.
  • Conducts counseling interviews with customers to guide them, suggest approaches, and assist them in achieving their occupational, educational, or vocational goals.
  • Describes, explains, or answers inquiries concerning eligibility, procedures, and benefits using agency guidelines.
  • Maintains liaison with public and private organizations to promote agency programs and services, exchange information, and develop necessary resources for customer services.
  • Compiles occupational, educational, and other pertinent information to assist customers in determining vocational and educational interests and goals.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants applying within the first 14 days. Minimum entrance requirements include at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in employment counseling, vocational counseling, guidance, placement counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or educational counseling. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also qualify.
