Emerging Store Manager
About the Role
Supervises customer service associates and designated team members. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store. Supports the Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables. Works an alternate schedule with minimal overlap with the Store Manager and assumes responsibilities of all store activities in their absence.
Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability. Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices. Monitor customer service, provide coaching, training, and develop improvement plans for both the front-end and pharmacy.
- Empower team members to find impactful resolutions for customers, seek solutions that exceed expectations, and build loyalty. Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
- Supervise store operations and team members, including assigning daily activities, delegating tasks, managing scheduling conflicts, and ensuring proper team member coverage.
- Collaborate with external partners to drive the future of the store. Support the Store Manager in leveraging data and team member input to make fact-based decisions.
- Supervise store cash management, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders, and all aspects of bookkeeping.
- Oversee front-end and pharmacy inventory, complete resets/revisions, price changes, and analyze trends to create corrective action plans. Train and coach team members on inventory procedures.
- Ensure execution of operational feedback from the Store Manager and District Manager through delegation and supervision.
- Maintain store interior and exterior cleanliness, manage repairs and maintenance, and respond to emergencies.
- Ensure team members have working knowledge of all computer and technology systems and software. Provide for the safety and well-being of team members and effectively utilize the Security Operations Center.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, and ensure strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the sale of alcohol, tobacco, fresh food, and pharmacy products.
- Analyze financial and performance data independently; create action plans to support business deliverables. Use operating statements and key performance indicators to drive store improvement.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to identify sales opportunities and ensure growth and performance through new initiatives.
- Support the Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary.
- Lead and train team members, providing mentoring, coaching, and support for career development. Manage team member performance, including discipline and termination when appropriate.
- Assign responsibilities, develop performance plans, set goals, observe performance, provide feedback, and give recognition to enhance individual and team effectiveness.
- Acquire and retain talent, build pipelines to keep the store properly staffed, and ensure a diverse pipeline of future leaders. Anticipate staffing needs, manage candidate pools, and participate in hiring decisions.
- Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training as required by company policy and laws.
- Establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management.
- Communicate regularly with team members through one-on-one discussions and group meetings to ensure open communication. Actively respond to team member questions or concerns.
- Assist the Store Manager in planning and communicating company and store strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a solid academic record (all majors welcome) OR satisfactorily completed a Walgreens Community Internship Program OR High School Diploma/GED and two years of experience in a supervisory position (does not require experience with direct reports).
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including professional business ethics, self-motivation, strong communication skills, and business acumen.
- Completion of Store Manager training program (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks of start date.
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.
- Willingness to accept promotion into a Store Manager position, if offered, which may require relocation.
- Ability to transfer to other Walgreens retail assets within the same hiring area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Internal candidates: Management experience, including supervising others, managing, and assigning work. Experience across both front-end and pharmacy.
- External candidates: Business majors. Prior retail or food industry experience.
Pay
The current salary range for this position is $45,000 - $71,550. The actual salary offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors.
