Emergency Trauma Technician Supervisor
About the role
This position represents and acts on behalf of Nurse Managers in all trauma technician functions for the Emergency Medicine umbrella.
Responsibilities
- Directs, plans, and monitors clinical and technical operations, functions, and resources of the Emergency Department.
- Operates various types of equipment, including the autopulse, EKG machine, pleurovac, ring cutter, oxygen regulators.
- Acts as the point of contact for the environment of care, patient property and belongings, conducts weekly rounding with EVS, EH&S, and oversees safety inspections per standards.
- Provides administrative supervisory operations to senior trauma technician employees, including human resources activities such as participating in interviews and recommending, coordinating training, providing coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, completing forms and documents related to HR and Payroll units.
Requirements

- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification or UCDH-issued CPR Certification.
- Licensed by the State of California as Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
- Associate degree and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of such education and experience.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Must complete and maintain Helipad & Critical Care Team trainings within 6 months of hire.
- Experience working in a health care institution or similar complex organization/industry.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills to evaluate program/staff needs, problem-solving, train other staff.
- Ability to research, collect, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems/issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the internet to locate information, evaluate products, provide cost comparisons and download data.
- Ability to work independently, accurately and quickly on multiple assignments, with multiple deadlines, maintaining productivity and flexibility.
- Knowledge and understanding of as well as the ability to interpret local, state and federal regulations (i.e., Joint Commission, Title XXII, Cal OSHA, State Department of Health, State Fire Marshall and Infection Control Standards).
- Must possess skills and abilities to recognize facility malfunctions or unsafe practices and have demonstrated ability to communicate department needs effectively.
- Willingness to learn new technology with an ability to quickly learn required applications to accomplish duties.
- Strong presentation and training skills.
- Exceptional analytical, administrative and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to write clear and concise emails, memoranda, project proposals, technical reports, policies and procedures, lead discussions, maintain appropriate and courteous interdepartmental communication, present information in a logical, concise and sequential order and deliver effective presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal and team management skills to work collaboratively with sensitivity and acceptance of individual differences in a diverse work force.
- Demonstrated ability to display respect and maintain the confidentiality of all patients, physicians, and hospital-related information.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language and utilize medical terminology appropriately.
- Skills and knowledge to work with all department equipment, tools, IE, EKG, monitoring and diagnostic equipment, life support equipment/ambu-bags, gurneys, compressed air tanks, oxygen set-up, trays, packs with instruments, tongs, tubing, solutions, and supplies.
- Familiar with principles of asepsis and hand hygiene.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of patient appropriately.
