About the role
The Emergency Department Technician functions semi-independently, under the direction of the medical provider or Registered Nurse, as part of the integrated healthcare team. Responsible for providing comprehensive quality patient care in an accurate and timely manner according to established patient standards and practice. Knowledge and necessary competency will be utilized to effectively meet the needs of patients of all age groups and developmental levels. Must possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public. Requires the ability to effectively plan; must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Requires enthusiasm, initiative and the ability to work independently/cooperatively with other personnel. Requires the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands/deadlines. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care activities including but not limited to triage, patient assessment, medication administration, and specimen collection.
- Provide support to medical providers during emergency situations.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort by maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials.
Requirements
- Current EMT Certification.
- Current Phlebotomy license.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification within 30 days of hire.
Qualifications
- Knowledge necessary to obtain Emergency Medical Tech Certification.
- Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Able to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
