Responsibilities

• Assist the Paramedic in rendering safe and effective treatment and transport of Chippenham Hospital patients on the EMS Transport Services’ ambulance
• Respond to EMS Call-Center requests, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately
• Ensure the readiness of Chippenham Hospital EMS ambulances for service by performing checks on ambulance mechanical systems and all included medical equipment to verify full and safe working condition
• Complete daily supply check-offs, check for dated equipment expiration, and stock as appropriate
• Maintain an aesthetically clean and safe ambulance and associated work area
• Report all issues of ambulance readiness to the Chief of EMS Operations immediately
• Remain available to render BLS mutual aid care to other agencies, mass casualty events, and declared disasters as outlined in Florida Statute Ch. 401
• Provide care for patients pursuant to the Basic Life Support guidelines outlined in F.S. 401.25
• Operate within Medical Protocols established by the Chippenham Hospital EMS Medical Director
• Operate Chippenham Hospital EMS ambulance in accordance with Emergency Vehicle Operations training, maintaining safety and control at all times
• Apply the practice of “due regard” at all times and follow all State and local regulations on emergency equipment
• Meet all current requirements of Chapter 64E-2 of the Florida Administrative Code
• Document all patient information and care factually and accurately, including all applicable insurance information and signatures
• Ensure documentation for every patient transported is completed prior to the end of each shift
• Provide care in the out-of-hospital setting, serving as the secondary provider and assistant to the Paramedic or other healthcare provider during interfacility transports
• Provide primary patient care activities on transports approved to be at the BLS level by the attending physician or EMS Medical Director
• Maintain competence in thorough patient care documentation and use of both EMS PCR and ED software
• Perform EMS hand-off reports at facility destinations and report appropriately to Paramedics, nursing staff, and ED Physicians
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of intermediate patient care, including vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiac monitoring, and 12 lead EKG
• Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered
• Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and use it to report potential patient safety issues
