Emergency Services Technician

Full-time shifts: 11am–11pm and 1pm–1am.

About the role

The Emergency Department (ED) technician provides patient services and care, cleans, maintains and stocks supplies and equipment, and applies the principles of standard precautions and infection control. The ED technician demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide services appropriate to the population and age group served in the emergency department. The ED technician collects data reflective of the patient status and reports the information to the licensed clinical staff in the Emergency Department. The information collected is relative to the patient’s specific age and needs as per policy and procedure. The ED Technician performs clerical, safety attendant, and other duties as assigned within their scope. The ED Technician receives delegated work by a Registered Nurse or member of the medical staff and is part of the care team.

Responsibilities

• Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
• Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
• Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.
• Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
• Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.
• Adheres to safety measures.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of ED Technician experience preferred.
• Basic patient assessment skills including primary survey.
• Basic knowledge of primary interventions.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills.
• High level of compassion, desire to help others, and self-confidence.
• Basic computer knowledge with demonstrated administrative skills.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy, ECG Tech, or EMT certification preferred.
• EMT-B or nursing student in final year as verified by official transcript.
• ECG course/certification, medical terminology, EMT-B/I/P preferred.

Physical Demands

• Constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping.
• Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
• May require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
• On-call responsibilities as directed.
• Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.

Pay

The base compensation range for this role is $16.75–$27.20 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. The pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
