About the Role
Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a RN and/or LPN in the ER setting. Performs general nursing assistant duties and works with age-specific populations according to the age and setting. Registers patients in the Emergency Department and Registration area, enters charges, and completes hospital-required paperwork. Assists in Medical-Surgical and SDS/Operating Room areas as needed and training completed.
Responsibilities
- Provides competent patient care to patient populations by obtaining and utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills in appropriately interpreting data, making decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and adapting procedures and treatments within the ER Tech scope of practice.
- Registers patients presenting to the ER for services and all hospital admissions following registration policies and procedures, including collecting Time of Service Payment when possible.
- Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to co-workers and multidisciplinary caregivers.
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- Enters charges according to billing policies and procedures (e.g., EKG, CRNA charges).
- Enters Bed Board data.
- Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record accurately and timely.
- Maintains active logons/passwords for computer software systems that support patient care and education.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Successful completion of a Nurse Aide Course required; certification preferred.
- State of Iowa nurse’s aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible preferred.
- Previous experience as a nurse’s aide in a hospital setting preferred.
- Minimum of one year post-high school business education or one year of experience in an office setting preferred.
Skills
- Experience with computer software and willingness to learn new software (e.g., Excel, Microsoft, Healthland, PowerChart).
- Detail-oriented, with strong numerical, clerical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and complete patient records accurately.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
Schedule
Evenings, 12-hour shift, 1 day a week with a rotating schedule.
