About the Role

2 shifts per week: every Friday night and rotating Monday/Tuesday nights (e.g., 1st week – Monday night and Friday night; 2nd week – Tuesday night and Friday night).

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties, including therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education.

Responsibilities

• Triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment (Emergency Room versus Urgent Care).
• Provide general patient care, including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention.
• Provide age- and education-specific education to all patients.
• Maintain a clean work environment, including duties such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
• Follow all company and HIPAA policies and procedures.
• Foster a friendly, respectful, and customer-focused work environment.
• Encourage patient participation in healthcare decisions by providing a reassuring and open environment.
• Accurately interpret and execute a physician’s instructions.
• Assist the physician with patient treatment and communicate patient needs and feedback.
• Administer medications and collect specimens for laboratory tests.
• Review and uphold lab policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with health team members to ensure patient well-being.
• Execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy.
• Observe and document patient responses to medications.
• Prepare specimens and operate lab equipment.
• Maintain 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly.
• Maintain all required professional certifications and licenses.
• Participate in facility certifications.
• Maintain continuing education units (CEUs) and complete yearly assigned education on time.
• Attend a minimum of four staff meetings and review/sign minutes of meetings not attended.
• Provide patient education and discharge instructions.
• Follow infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.

Requirements

• NREMT with IV certification, Paramedic, or LVN with at least 1 year of ER experience.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Certification as MA, CNA, CMA, LVN, NCT, EMT-P, or EMT-B.
• Current BLS & ACLS certification.
• Completion of company-provided laboratory testing education and competency.
