Emergency Room Technician I - Days/Evenings

About the role

Geisinger is proud to offer an Emergency Room Technician I a $1,500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a $15.91 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to a $3 shift differential for evening, night, and weekend shifts. The role also offers up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices.
• Meet the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
• Promote a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
• Triage patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of patients and families.
• Report changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patient care staff with wound care, splinting, EKGs, and rehabilitation tasks to carry out multidisciplinary care plans.
• Provide unit desk clerk functions when needed.
• Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, per physician order.
• Use two patient identifiers with proper labeling for blood glucose monitoring, urine and stool collection, sputum collection, and iStat testing.
• Assist with transporting patients to and from other hospital areas for tests.
• Transport medications to and from the pharmacy and within the unit, including blood products to and from the Blood Bank.
• Assist patients with daily activities, including undressing, dressing, lifting, and positioning for procedures.
• Access non-controlled medication storage and supply areas and transport non-controlled medications as needed.
• Coordinate relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
• Promote a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – required.
• Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months – default issuing body.
