Job Description

The Emergency Department Tech/Unit Coordinator at UofL Health provides clinical patient care support in a caring, safe, and efficient manner, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

• Maintains patient records and ensures accuracy in hospital billing systems.
• Performs various clinical tasks such as measuring intake and output, vital signs, applying and monitoring restraints, performing safety checks, and obtaining timed cardiac markers.
• Assists with patient mobility, hygiene, grooming, dressing, skin and nail care, dietary needs, and toileting and elimination.
• Transports patients, lab work, specimens, and blood; stocks trauma room equipment; applies non-sterile hot/cold packs/compresses, bandages, elastic stockings, etc.; safely and correctly operates equipment; performs venipuncture; performs routine 12-lead electrocardiography testing; assists with procedure set-ups; transcribes and enters physician orders; sets up admission and discharges charts; updates patient files; and provides care/support to patients with orthopedic injuries.
• Responds appropriately in lifesaving situations, handles desk communications, and ensures safeguarding of patients' clothing and valuables.
• Keeps track of equipment and supplies, notifies appropriate persons regarding broken or lost equipment and missing supplies; adheres to Universal Precautions, infection control, OSHA, and other regulatory policies and procedures; maintains safe work practices and follows facility safety procedures; assists with admitting, physical examinations, transfers, and discharging patients; receives and gives off-going reports; assists in the orientation of new employees; uses A.I.D.E.T. when communicating with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, and customers; complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct; and complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED/equivalent (required)
• Completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT Training Program, or Nursing Students who have completed Fundamentals of Nursing Course from an accredited school of nursing (preferred)
• Previous experience in ED (preferred)
• Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
