About the Role
Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital is a designated critical access hospital serving residents in Crawford, Franklin, and Washington counties. The Emergency Department is a 16-bed unit with a patient volume of 45-50 per day and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 or 3:1, operating on 12-hour shifts.
The hospital offers a state-of-the-art emergency department, modern childbirth center, critical care unit, surgical suite, cardiac rehab services, cancer center, and a medical office building for primary and specialty care. The Emergency Department saw over 20,000 patients in 2010 and is staffed 24/7 by experienced emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Staff are trained in trauma care, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and 12-lead EKG interpretation. The department features a 64-slice CT machine, an in-house ambulance service with paramedics, and access to helicopter transportation for higher-level care.
Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing care standards.
Responsibilities
- Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Engages in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, and family.
- Ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to care standards.
- Assesses patient preferences, barriers to care, and population-specific needs (emotional, spiritual, cultural, etc.).
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's in Nursing
- Experience: No prior experience required
- Supervisor Experience: Not required
- Licenses & Certifications: RN (Registered Nurse)
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
