Duties & Essential Job Functions
- Provide appropriate medical services to all patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Consult with medical staff members about issues concerning appropriate medical services to be provided to such patients.
- Consult and cooperate with the clinical departments to facilitate patient care.
- Refer when medically necessary patients for specialist care.
- Use currently accepted methods and practices of medicine, adhere to applicable standards of care, medical ethics, policies and protocols, and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
- Be responsible, on a case-by-case basis as the need arises, for taking all actions necessary to facilitate the appropriate transfer of a patient to or from another medical facility to gain access to skilled medical care.
- Promote and maintain a good working relationship with members of the medical staff and employees.
- Assist hospital in attaining any goals regarding patient, employee, and physician satisfaction in connection with physician’s delivery of services.
- Consult with quality manager to achieve better clinical outcomes for patients, improve the quality of patient care and efficient utilization of physician and hospital resources.
- Absorb patients admitted to hospital for observation.
- Report to hospital, as needed, material concerns about quality of care, delay in delivery of medical services to patients, or any patient concerns.
- Comply with requirements and standards of AHS Medical, The Joint Commission, any other accrediting agencies, and all applicable AHS laws, code of conduct, rules, and regulations.
- Cooperate with hospital operation and nursing in implementing new procedures, controls, and systems to promote and facilitate quality, cost controls, reimbursement functions, standardization of products and equipment, and any other requests made by hospital.
- Provide effective and timely communications to referring or admitting physicians, patients and family concerning the clinical status of each patient admitted through the ED (Emergency Department).
- Promote and maintain good public relations on behalf of hospitals and assist hospitals in attaining goals established regarding patient/employee/physician satisfaction in connection with delivery of clinical services.
- Attend monthly Faculty and Quality Review (Peer Review) meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director of service and the department chair.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.
- Completion of approved post-graduate residency training in Emergency Medicine from an accredited program is required.
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine is required.
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California is required.
- A Valid DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) license is required.
- Compliance with Emergency Medicine (EM) Board mandated education and training to maintain State licensure and board certification is required.
