Emergency Medical Technician -Full Time- Mercy Cassville

Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I's may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• EMT license for the state where employed.
• Valid driver’s license.
• At least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
• Certifications/Registration: Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire.

Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements

• Unimpaired mobility: Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, and work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles.
• Must be able to perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving equipment and patients in various environmental conditions.
• Must be able to perform required medical skills and techniques.
• Correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determining skin and blood color, and ability to read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes.
• Must be able to hear and understand information provided by patients, family, or bystanders; hear breathing sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressure; differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments; and hear radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens.
• Must be able to speak and enunciate clearly at a level audible to others in loud conditions, and communicate verbally with patients, families, and other emergency services personnel in stressful situations.
• Must successfully satisfy the physical demands of the role, including a pre-hire and annual fitness-for-duty test.

• Mobile and portable communications equipment.
• Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacer.
• Approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop-type device.
• Variety of bags and kits.
• Assigned ambulance.
• Computer, FAX, printer, and other office-related equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• ITLS or equivalent training.

Schedule

Full-time, 48/96 schedule (48 hours on, 96 hours off).
