Emergency Medical Technician

Responsibilities

• Affirms the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate prehospital medical care.
• Adapts and adjusts the patient’s care plan according to the patient’s needs in the prehospital setting.
• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
• Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.
• Must be able to transport a behavioral health patient utilizing an ambulance or secure car.

Qualifications

• EMT Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Valid chauffer’s driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Current Iowa certification as an EMT. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
• Advanced EMT Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Valid chauffer’s driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Current certification as Iowa Advanced-EMT. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
• Paramedic Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course. Valid Iowa Chauffeur’s License. Current certification at EMT-PM level is required. Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
