Emergency Hire - Medical Assistant - Campus Health and Wellbeing
About the role
Performs a broad range of clinical medical assistant duties, including diagnostic testing, phlebotomy, patient intake, vital signs, treatment assistance, and specimen collection within scope of practice. Supports daily clinical operations through exam room preparation, instrument sterilization, inventory and supply management, and maintenance of a safe patient care environment. Coordinates patient care by managing scheduling, registration, referrals, insurance communication, electronic health records, and clinical documentation. Provides front office and administrative support, serving as the primary point of contact for patients while coordinating appointments and communication for medical, counseling, and psychological services. Reviews student health records and performs related clinical and administrative duties to support efficient healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities
- Diagnoses and treats minor illnesses and injuries
- Administers medications and treatments
- Collects and processes laboratory specimens
- Assists with patient examinations and procedures
- Manages patient scheduling and appointment coordination
- Communicates with patients regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and insurance issues
- Ensures compliance with hospital and clinic policies and procedures
- Maintains a clean and organized patient care environment
- Coordinates with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care
- Supports the administrative functions of the clinic, including but not limited to, record keeping, billing, and insurance processing
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Licenses, Certificates, Credentials: Possess a certificate of completion from an accredited and approved medical assisting program through the Department of Education or Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education within the Department of Consumer Affairs or equivalent, the supervising CSU physician must verify competencies; OR Completion of in-house campus-training program developed according to the guidelines established by the Medical Board of California. A CSU physician must document and certify in writing that the formal training and clinical practice hours required by the Medical Board of California to perform the duties of a Medical Assistant have been completed successfully.
- Basic life support (or higher) cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification for Healthcare Providers (by date of hire).

Pay
Salary Anticipated Hiring Range: $21.78 - $24.05 per hour Classification Range: $21.78 - $30.50 per hour

Additional Information
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Cal Poly will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
