About the role

The Emergency Department Technician is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This position supports the Emergency Department to maintain smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors. The role is accountable for accurate, timely documentation in the patient medical record and ensures prompt assistance contributing to the patient’s progress towards discharge.

Saddleback Medical Center Emergency Department is a cardiac/STEMI and thrombectomy-certified stroke receiving unit serving a diverse community. This position provides patient care in a safe and effective manner within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical and information technology systems.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, and sensitive material in printed, electronic, or verbal form.
  • Manages and acknowledges patient-family expectations to create positive experiences.
  • Contributes to an effective, clean, and safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates tact, sensitivity, and discretion to maintain good relations with others.
  • Integrates knowledge of job-specific competencies and follows directions clearly and timely.
  • Communicates with the registered nurse and healthcare team in an organized manner.
  • Collects and documents patient status information in the electronic medical record and notifies the registered nurse of changes.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information.
  • Safely maintains and competently uses equipment in patient care delivery.
  • Assists the Emergency Department team in routine and acute care, transfer and transport of patients, splint application, wound care, and performing EKG testing.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and interact positively and constructively.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • One year of acute care experience as a unit secretary, nursing assistant, monitor technician, or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English required.

Qualifications

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) card required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) preferred.

Pay

Pay Range: $23.00/hour. Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
