About the role

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the delivery of services to patients in various settings. This role involves providing direct patient care, assisting with patient observations, and performing various clinical tasks under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings
  • Provides direct patient care, including vital signs, pulse oximetry, and assistance with ADLs
  • Performs patient observations: safety and constant/one-to-one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse
  • Aids in patient transportation and movement
  • Assists with patient examinations and treatments, including dressing changes, application of ace bandages, and applications of slings and ice
  • Applies casts and splints as needed
  • Prepares, adjusts, and teaches the use of crutches and canes
  • Collects specimens, performs venipunctures and fingersticks for blood glucose, and obtains EKGs as ordered
  • Communicates information to patients, families, and visitors
  • Provides post-mortem care
  • Sets up, stocks, and maintains examining rooms
  • Maintains BCLS certification as required by EMS standards

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree desirable
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification

Skills

  • Knowledge of age-specific competencies for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and significant others
  • Proficiency in maintaining patient/employee confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
