Emergency Department Technician 7a ED

Located in Gilbert, Arizona, our Banner Gateway Medical Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center offer a 46-bed, all-private, Level 4 trauma designated Emergency Department equipped to diagnose and treat a wide array of illnesses and injuries. About the role

As an Emergency Department Technician in the Outpatient Observation Unit, you will use your skills to care for a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels. Occasional floating to the Emergency Department may be required. This is a full-time day shift position with three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), including rotating weekends and holidays. You will have access to self-scheduling for shift and weekend coverage, a $1/hour weekend shift differential, and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned procedures under general supervision, including electrocardiogram testing (EKG), wound cleansing, vital sign measurements, monitor lead application, specimen collection, and patient transport.
• Perform advanced skills (where state statute permits), such as blood glucose testing, phlebotomy, saline lock insertion, IV discontinuation, and bladder (Foley) catheterization for patients twelve years and older.
• Assist with patient exams and minor surgical or health procedures, including lumbar punctures, sterile field preparation, suturing lacerations, chest tube insertion, closed fracture reduction, gastric lavage, pelvic examinations, restraint application, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Apply orthopedic devices, including pre-manufactured and plaster splints under physician direction.
• Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, hemoccult, gastroccult) while ensuring accuracy and quality control.
• Communicate patient condition changes to RNs, physicians, or other providers.
• Document procedures, vital signs, and equipment used in the patient record.
• Monitor and maintain supply stock levels, medication rooms, and specialty carts.
• Assist with health unit coordination tasks and reception responsibilities as needed.
• Attend department meetings and educational sessions; assist in orienting and training new ED Technicians.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Either Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B) or higher with state licensure/certification, or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice (required for new hires and transfers). In Colorado: EMT-B or higher with state licensure/certification.
• Basic computer skills, effective communication (written and verbal), and problem-solving ability.

Pay

This position includes a $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.
