Emergency Department Tech

Responsibilities

• Performs urgent and emergent care procedures including EKGs, wound care, vital sign monitoring, IV initiation, phlebotomy procedures and codes.
• Maintains patient condition and performs data collection.
• Communicates findings and patient condition to primary Registered Nurse (RN).
• Applies, modifies and removes casts, traction appliances, and soft goods under written orders of attending physician.
• Affords assistance to physicians with these procedures as needed.
• Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Orders and stocks unit supplies of all types needed for patient care and locates shared equipment within the Hospital.
• Affords assistance with the mobilization, ambulation and transport of patients.

Requirements

• Licensure / Certification / Registration Required: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Preferred Credential(s): Emergency Medical Tech credentialed from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Qualifications

• Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
• Utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
• Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
• Complies with established organization and department policies.
