Job Summary

The Emergency Department Specialty Educator at HCA Healthcare is responsible for developing educational materials and activities to enhance professional practice and patient care in the specialty area. This role involves educational aspects of orientation and onboarding, clinical professional development, and addressing practice gaps for identified target audiences.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in an acute care facility and 2+ years of experience in education, organizational development, or human resources in a hospital setting.

  • Experience in developing course content, providing course delivery, conducting learner evaluation, and utilizing adult learning principles.

  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) in which he or she practices.

  • Certified Nurse Educator certification required within one year of hire.

What You Will Do

  • Participates in strategic planning and business development within area(s) of responsibility to support new service offerings, technology advances, and other opportunities.

  • Represents the organization positively within the community; participates in company-supported community/patient events and in-services.

  • Stays abreast of external factors and opportunities impacting healthcare, including political, legislative, and regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and advancements in healthcare delivery.

  • Supports the organization to respond to changing healthcare dynamics and market environments through clinical education.

  • Operates within the annual budget and optimizes department performance in accordance with established budget, including the utilization of staffing, supplies, equipment, and identifying cost reduction opportunities to achieve savings.

  • Collaborates with the clinical education team to systematically evaluate HCA’s education plan to determine achievement of expected outcomes and resource allocation.

  • Integrates best available evidence into practice into HCA’s clinical education service line.

  • Collaborates with division VPs, Clinical Education to improve the nursing practice of the organization through clinical education and competency management.

  • Sets and achieves goals through problem solving independently and engaging stakeholders appropriately.

  • Models lifelong learning and remains cognizant of nurse professional development trends and changes in practice to best meet the educational needs of our clinicians.

  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to apply evaluation methodologies, such as Kirkpatrick, into courses and curriculum to refine clinical content and programs.

  • Able to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Available to provide assistance to HCA Command Center for any/all disaster or emergency situations.
