Emergency Department - Secretary/Technician
About the Role
Various part-time and full-time positions available in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Secretary/Technician performs a variety of direct and non-direct patient care duties, including routine patient care, clerical, supply, and messenger responsibilities. This role also handles other patient care and unit duties as needed. Junior or senior nursing students and physician assistant students are encouraged to apply. This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and reports to the Nurse Manager, Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, including phlebotomy, oxygen application, and ambulation.
- Handle clerical, supply, and messenger duties.
- Complete other patient care and unit-related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Six (6) months to one (1) year of nursing assistant experience and/or other clinical assistant experience (preferred).
- Demonstrated competency in nursing assistant skills checklist by the end of the orientation period (required).
Skills
- Ability to perform patient care activities requiring technical or on-the-job training (e.g., phlebotomy, oxygen application, ambulation).
- Skills typically acquired through completion of a certified nursing assistant, EMT, or medical assistant program.

Pay
$18.25 - $25.38 per hour (Grade SC2C24).
Work Location
Onsite at 30 Locust Street, Northampton, MA.
