Patient Access Representative
Position Summary: The Patient Access Representative is the first point of contact for patients and visitors, creating a warm, welcoming, and professional experience while supporting patient registration, insurance verification, and administrative processes. This role requires exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Team members may support Emergency Department, Outpatient/Clinic, and Main Admitting/Inpatient areas based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Department (ED)
- Provide outstanding customer service to patients, families, and visitors in a fast-paced, 24/7 emergency care environment.
- Register patients arriving through the Front Triage Desk, Ambulance Bay, or at the bedside.
- Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information with a high degree of accuracy.
- Obtain and scan identification, insurance cards, and required consent forms into the EMR system.
- Complete bedside registration using portable computers while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Absorb and respond to inquiries from patients and their families.
- Assist uninsured patients with self-pay processes and payment options.
- Complete required Medicare and admission-related documentation as needed.
- Work rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight coverage as required.
Outpatient/Clinic
- Greet and check in patients while providing a positive and efficient patient experience.
- Accurately locate patient records within the EMR system.
- Verify and update demographic and insurance information.
- Support patient checkout processes, including scheduling follow-up appointments and charge entry.
- Answer patient questions regarding laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and other clinic services.
Main Admitting/Inpatient
- Welcome and assist patients seeking hospital services, including admissions, surgery, laboratory, and radiology.
- Complete patient registration and insurance verification processes.
- Update patient information in the EMR accurately and efficiently.
- Provide information and support regarding hospital services and procedures.
- Travel to inpatient units as needed to complete bedside registration and admission activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong customer service and patient-focused communication skills.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency with computers, data entry, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous healthcare registration, patient access, medical office, or hospital experience.
- Knowledge of insurance verification, medical terminology, and healthcare workflows.
- Experience working in emergency, outpatient, or inpatient healthcare settings.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fishers, IN.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
