Emergency Communications Officer

Duties

Includes receiving and handling emergency service calls from the public, determining the nature and location of the emergency, ensuring proper radio frequencies for dispatch of emergency units, maintaining awareness of the location and status of up to or exceeding 50 emergency response units throughout the shift, operating computer systems and consoles, entering, updating, and retrieving information from computer systems, preparing incident reports using the automated reporting system, answering non-emergency calls, coordinating emergency and non-emergency responses with other city departments and law enforcement agencies, handling after-hour service calls for emergency situations for departments including Animal Control, Water Utilities, Traffic and Transportation / Streets, and Victim Services, and performing other duties as assigned.

  • Eight or 12 hour shifts covering a 24-hour period
  • Schedule includes weekends and some holidays

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years relevant experience; Computer Aided Dispatch, 911 or similar police-related experience preferred. Must take and pass an assessment on Critical Personnel Selection Software. Must have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, TCOLE telecommunications proficiency certificate and state licensure. Must not have any criminal conviction as an adult or juvenile above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.

PAY GRADE GG19 / FULL PAY RANGE $28.05 - $39.55 PER HOUR

Schedule

01 24/7 Scheduling (Duties require being able to work various shifts covering a 24-hour period including day, evening and nighttime hours as well as holidays and weekends.)
