Emergency Clinician

For over 65 years, UCS has been providing exceptional and thoughtful care to individuals and families in our community through programs, services, and educational opportunities. Our staff includes administration, clinicians, nurses, teachers, case managers, psychiatrists, and direct support providers who work within our 15 facilities to support over 3,000 individuals annually. We are part of Vermont Care Partners, a network of sixteen agencies providing mental health, substance use disorder, and developmental disability services and supports across Vermont.

About the role

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Psychiatric Medical Team, the Emergency Clinician provides clinical services to mental health and/or substance use clients, including clinical case management in accordance with the Mental Health Provider Manual mandated by the Vermont Department of Mental Health. Services may also include consultation and education to schools, agencies, and the community.

Responsibilities

• Direct Clinical Services: Triage crisis calls and determine appropriate response (mobile, phone, law enforcement, emergency department). Provide assessment and brief, solution-focused counseling to individuals and families in crisis. Offer individual, family, and group critical incident debriefing. Coordinate with other agencies and facilitate referrals. May provide specialized assessments (e.g., psychological testing, substance use evaluations).
• Consultation and Education Services: Provide mental health and/or substance use consultation to the community, agencies, professionals, and schools. Deliver educational or evaluative consultation based on clinician’s expertise. Act as a liaison among community agencies to coordinate services.
• Clinical Case Management and Social Support: Provide concurrent case management services as needed, including service coordination, collateral contacts, telephone support, social support for care services, and treatment planning.
• Clinical Record-Keeping: Maintain timely and thorough documentation, including client assessments, progress notes, time sheets, schedules, billing reports, and periodic reports.
• Administrative and Team Meetings: Attend and participate in coordinative, administrative, and clinical meetings to inform, problem-solve, and coordinate services. Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field.
• Two years’ related work experience.
• Professional clinical license in field of specialty.
• Qualified Mental Health Professional Certification must be obtained within 1 year of start date.
• Valid Driver’s License.
