Embedded Software Engineer – EO/IR System Development
About the role
The Embedded Software Developer will join Leidos Defense Systems, contributing to the EO/IR Subsystem and Seeker Development portfolio. The role involves working with diverse teams to solve complex technical problems, developing software solutions for aerospace and military systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for enhancements and software-intensive systems and products.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure and platforms.
- Support resolution of technical issues during development, integration, and testing of deliverable products.
- Assess bugs and deficiencies for root cause and identify corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field with 4-8 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 2-6 years of experience.
- Expert knowledge of C and C++ programming languages, and various microprocessor assembly languages.
- Experience with communication protocols such as UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods for both software and hardware.
- Collaborative engineering environment experience, effective communication skills, and ability to work in a team setting.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
Qualifications
- Self-starter with experience working with interdisciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems.
- Experience with infrared sensor technology and seeker systems.
- Familiarity with military standards and regulations related to defense systems.
- Knowledge of software programming languages for embedded systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Skills
- Expertise in C and C++ programming languages.

- Software versioning and release cycles.
- Lab experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
