Embedded OS Engineer
Position Summary
Teal Drones is seeking an Embedded OS Engineer to lead the Ubuntu-based Linux firmware stack on our MK2 drone platform (Qualcomm QRB5165). Key responsibilities include building, securing, and maintaining the OS, optimizing build pipelines, and managing post-build customization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Own and maintain the teal-mk2-build repository, including layer configuration, local.conf tuning, and image recipes.
Debug BitBake task failures and optimize build performance.
Implement ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND functions for OS customization, remove unnecessary services, and manage the dpkg / apt ecosystem.
Maintain Jenkins pipelines, diagnose and resolve performance issues, and manage GitLab repository structure.
Configure systemd-networkd for network mode switching, write systemd service units, and develop reliable USB logging and file transfer services.
Remediate security findings, maintain shadow hygiene, and generate security compliance artifacts.
Profile and diagnose reliability issues, implement OS-level monitoring, and advise on cloud build infrastructure choices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of embedded Linux engineering experience, including direct ownership of Yocto/BitBake build systems.
Strong proficiency with BitBake concepts and hands-on experience with .patch files.
Deep knowledge of systemd and experience with bash scripting.
Experience with Ubuntu on ARM64 platforms, including ESM security patching and package management.
Proficiency in Jenkins or equivalent CI/CD platforms and familiarity with Python Flask.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience with Qualcomm QRB5165 or similar robotics/drone SoC platforms.
Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, and ADB workflows.
Knowledge of cross-compilation tools and methods.
Experience with AWS Cloud management and infrastructure provisioning.
