Embedded OS Engineer
Position Summary
Teal Drones is seeking an Embedded OS Engineer to lead the Ubuntu-based Linux firmware stack on our MK2 drone platform (Qualcomm QRB5165). Responsibilities include building, securing, and maintaining the OS, debugging BitBake tasks, and optimizing build performance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Own and maintain the teal-mk2-build repository, including layer configuration, local.conf tuning, and image recipes.
Debug BitBake task failures, optimize build performance, and manage package inclusion/exclusion.
Implement ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND functions, write systemd service units, and develop USB logging services.
Maintain Jenkins pipelines, diagnose and resolve Jenkins agent performance issues, and manage GitLab repository structure.
Remediate security findings, maintain shadow file hygiene, and generate security compliance artifacts.
Profile and diagnose reliability issues, and implement OS-level monitoring.
Advise on cloud build infrastructure choices and develop internal tooling.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of embedded Linux engineering experience, including direct ownership of Yocto/BitBake build systems.
Strong proficiency with BitBake concepts, systemd, bash scripting, and Jenkins.
Experience with Qualcomm QRB5165 or similar robotics/drone SoC platforms and their associated BSP layers.
Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and Python Flask.
Knowledge of cross-compilation tools and methods.
Experience with ADB and radio licensing/authentication workflows.
Experience with AWS Cloud management and infrastructure provisioning.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience with Qualcomm QRB5165 or similar robotics/drone SoC platforms and their associated BSP layers.
Familiarity with Prometheus, node exporter, process-exporter, and Grafana for embedded device fleet monitoring.
Experience with Python Flask for internal tooling (device registration, fleet management dashboards).
Knowledge of cross-compilation tools and methods.
Experience with ADB and radio licensing/authentication workflows.
Exposure to radio licensing and MAC-based device authentication workflows (e.g., Doodle Labs radios).
Experience with AWS Cloud management and infrastructure provisioning.
