The Academy
The Academy offers multiple ways to help members obtain paid employment. Work plays a central role in our lives, where we develop a sense of identity and purpose within the larger community. Yet, adults living with mental health challenges often struggle to find and sustain fulfilling work. By building on their talents and capabilities, members have a chance to blossom and reach their career potential.
About the role
At the Academy, we know that it is possible for everyone to connect with meaningful work and a sense of purpose. The supportive staff helps members maintain their jobs by encouraging them when it gets tough and maintaining a relationship with their employers.
Responsibilities
- Participation in the Academy's work-ordered day to regain skills and confidence.
- Development of an individualized career plan.
- Entry-level part-time paid work through Transitional Employment, with high levels of support from Academy staff.
- Pursuit of Supported or Independent Employment, with assistance with job searching, interview preparation, and on-the-job training.
- Job coaching by Academy job coaches, who communicate regularly with employers to help foster job success.
- Placement in entry-level jobs through Transitional Employment (TE) Program, partnering with high-profile local businesses.
- Permanent job placements in Supported Employment, with assistance from Academy job coaches for resume building, interview preparation, and on-the-job training.
Benefits
The Transitional Employment (TE) Program provides quality, reliable personnel (our amazing members!) committed to job coverage 100% of the time. TE positions are part-time and typically last between 6 and 9 months, offering a first step back into the workforce. Supported Employment allows members to pursue permanent positions in their chosen field, either part-time or full-time, with assistance from Academy job coaches.
