Primary Duties
- Conduct embalming, all forms of decedent preparation, and restoration with expertise and respect.
- Perform decedent transportation, including first calls, airport transport, and deliveries to satellite locations.
- Assist funeral directors and families with ritual washings, identification viewings, and family-involved body preparations.
- Absorb decedents for cremation, including removal of pacemakers.
- Receive products and materials from vendors, shipping companies, and other suppliers.
- Care for decedents in a respectful and confidential manner while performing a variety of tasks in the care center.
- Ensure all aspects of a safe workplace are followed, including universal precautions.
- Participate and assist with ongoing training for mortuary students and apprentices.
- Actively support professional learning and development.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk and/or hear.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Required to lift over 75 pounds.
Work Environment
- This position operates in a professional office environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, and fax machines.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience
- Hold an Ohio Funeral Directors and Embalmer’s license or be able to reciprocate to obtain an Embalmer’s license.
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Embalmer.
- High level of compassion and integrity.
- Ability to manage distressing and stressful situations with sensitivity and care.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Thorough understanding of methods for comforting people during grief.
- Technologically competent and able to pick up new software programs quickly.
- A thorough understanding of Teams, Microsoft, SharePoint, and Passare is helpful.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Displays a “Customer First” attitude.
