About the Role
The Director of Major Gifts will strategically implement and steward the major gift fundraising program for the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation, focusing on donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship for leadership giving in support of Elliot Health System. This role also supports the legacy gift program and capital campaign needs in partnership with the Vice President/Chief Philanthropy Officer.
Responsibilities
- Implement a comprehensive strategy for major gifts ($50k+), principal gifts, and planned giving to meet annual fundraising goals and capital campaign targets.
- Create plans to achieve metrics and KPIs for portfolio management and revenue generation.
- Collaborate with the VP/Chief Philanthropy Officer, MJE Foundation colleagues, and Board members to implement a data-driven, collaborative program to achieve and surpass fundraising goals.
- Partner with the Annual Giving and Donor Relations Manager to develop solicitation and donor engagement strategies.
- Analyze prospect and donor data to identify new opportunities, track progress, and refine strategies for maximum impact.
- Collaborate with the Philanthropy Operations Specialist, MJE Events team, and Marketing and Communications team to develop donor communications, stewardship, and events.
- Develop the skills and capabilities of direct reports and foster a culture of curiosity, mentorship, teamwork, excellence, and accountability.
- Contribute to strategy and planning for all development initiatives, programs, and functions.
- Advise on data and reports required for internal and external reporting and communications.
- Support volunteer and campaign-related committees as needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts of $50,000+ from an active portfolio of approximately 100 prospects, with gift capacity ratings of $100K-$10M+.
- Conduct 8-10 donor visits monthly; complete a minimum of 10 solicitations annually.
- Support capital campaign program as needed.
- Build customized donor stewardship strategies and solicitation proposals.
- Identify new major gift sources and serve as a knowledge source for funding opportunities.
- Maintain current knowledge of national and international funding environments and trends related to the Foundation and Elliot Health System.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree (MPA) or similar preferred.
- CFRE preferred.
- 10 years of frontline fundraising experience, with healthcare experience a plus.
- At least 3 years of proven track record of major gift work ($50K and above) required, or 5+ years of major gift work ($500K and above) preferred.
- Database management and financial management software experience required; Blackbaud and Workday experience preferred.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week; 9am to 5pm.
