Salary Grade Z02S-Z06S starting at $17.59 per hour. Reports to Building Administrator, Language Services. Non-exempt position.

About the role

Work with classroom teachers to provide academic support for English Language Learners, helping students comprehend and demonstrate achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.
  • Provide instructional and language support for ELL high school students.
  • Understand, support, and assist in implementing and communicating ELL goals and objectives.
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials for ELL students.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, students, parents, and school administration.
  • Accompany teachers on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
  • Participate in program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
  • Attend orientation and in-service training sessions, providing interpretation as able.
  • Plan individual and group activities to stimulate language growth.
  • Instruct children in personal cleanliness and self-care practices.
  • Support staff with phone calls in the parents' home language regarding school concerns.
  • Facilitate communication between school, students, teachers, and administration.
  • Assist with ACCESS screening and testing of English Language Learners.

Requirements

  • 60 college hours with a grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • Fluent in Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of successful experience working with students and their parents.
  • Coursework in education.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Visual ability requiring mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Schedule

In person, 10 months per year, 5 days per week, 8.5 hours per day.
