Bilingual Instructional Paraprofessional- (Foreign Language Academy)

About the Role

Work with classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate, and carry out classroom instruction for English Language Learners. Support children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with organizational needs in the classroom.
• Assist students with lessons and assignments in regular classrooms as assigned.
• Tutor students on lessons as determined by the teacher or instructional coach.
• Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids.
• Help maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Provide short-term classroom coverage when the teacher must leave the room but remains within the building.
• Work as a member of the learning team in cooperation with the building staff.
• Supervise students in halls, stairwells, and during recess.
• Attend orientation and in-service training sessions.
• Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Sixty (60) college hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA (Instructional Paraprofessional qualification).
• Missouri state substitute teacher certification.
• Skills in working with children and their parents.
• Desire to work with elementary grade children.
• Excellent dual-language speaking and writing skills in Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of successful experience working with children and their parents.
• Coursework in childhood education.
