About the role

JCCC is seeking non-credit instructors to teach English to non-native speakers. The positions are not located on the main JCCC campus but at JCAE locations including West Park and Center of Grace.

Responsibilities

  • Create and submit weekly lesson plans using the digital template provided to the building lead.
  • Learn and implement the required curriculum that emphasizes life skills, workplace skills, digital literacy, civics/citizenship, and more.
  • Access and utilize the JCAE ELL website and other online resources to teach in a classroom setting.
  • Maintain student data, attendance records, and other online resources to teach in a classroom setting.
  • Conference with learners at the beginning and end of the semester to discuss goals and growth.
  • Participate in new student intake onboarding such as registration, orientation, and testing.
  • Participate in staff development activities both online and in-person each semester.
  • Complete all JCCC annual mandatory training and administrative requirements, including account setup, website access, lesson plan training, LMS training, data entry, and other tasks to prepare for the class.
  • Work with the building lead to schedule a formal observation, followed by a debrief and a follow-up observation to confirm recommendations have been implemented.
  • Fill-in periodically for other teachers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or related area.
  • Experience working with English language learners in a classroom setting.
  • Able to create quality digital lesson plans and maintain a student-centered classroom.
  • Show classroom management skills and an interactive teaching method.
  • Demonstrate understanding, support, and differentiation for multi-level learners.
  • Show proficiency in basic classroom technology, Microsoft applications, and other technologies utilized by the program.
  • Minimum of one year teaching in a classroom setting, not individual tutoring.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
  • Experience working with Microsoft office applications and basic classroom technology.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or related area.
  • One year teaching experience in a classroom setting, not individual tutoring.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
  • Experience working with Microsoft office applications and basic classroom technology.
  • Experience teaching adult English Language Learners.

Skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse adult student population.
  • Ability to teach in a student-centered classroom for 3-hour sessions where interactive learning is emphasized.
