About the role
The Elevator Services & Repair Department seeks Elevator Mechanics to maintain and repair elevator devices across the five boroughs. Candidates will undergo training on various controllers, troubleshooting, and safety procedures. They must also pass a final exam, be physically capable of climbing up to five stories, and carry at least 25 lbs. of tools.
Responsibilities
- Respond to elevator outages
- Perform monthly preventive maintenance
- Ensure compliance with NYCHA protocols and safety procedures
- Communicate with the Supervisor of Elevator Mechanics on outage statuses and restoration efforts
- Analyze reports to identify poorly performing devices
Requirements
- New York State Department of Labor & New York City Department of Buildings Elevator Mechanic License
- Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York
Qualifications
- Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an elevator mechanic
- Four and one-half years of experience as an elevator mechanic plus six months of closely related experience in repair and maintenance of electrical or electromechanical control systems, or electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical components of escalators, drawbridges, aircraft, rail cars, or mechanical doors
- Six hundred hours of training in mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, or electronic technology or a related field
