About the role

The Teaching Assistant at Deep Roots Charter School supports a joyful, structured, and purposeful classroom culture where all students feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to succeed. In collaboration with lead teachers, the Teaching Assistant helps ensure an engaging and inclusive learning environment by building strong relationships with students, reinforcing routines, and delivering academic instruction aligned to the school's values and learning goals. Teaching Assistants are empowered to lead whole group, small group, and individualized instruction as needed, and contribute meaningfully to lesson implementation and classroom management. This role is ideal for individuals with a bachelor's degree who are passionate about education and committed to closing the opportunity gap for students. Teaching Assistants report to the Assistant Principal of Instruction and work closely with both general and special education teams to meet student needs and uphold the school's core values of practice, service, and purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Support Instruction: Facilitate whole group lessons, small group instruction, and one-on-one support aligned to daily academic goals and lesson plans; adjust instructional strategies based on student needs and engagement.
  • Foster Positive Culture: Model and promote a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment by reinforcing classroom routines, encouraging respectful behavior, and cultivating strong relationships with students.
  • Collaborate with Teachers: Support lead teachers in lesson planning, classroom set-up, and instructional delivery; contribute ideas and feedback to improve student learning and engagement.
  • Differentiate Learning: Adapt materials and instructional techniques to accommodate a range of learning needs, ensuring that all students, including English Learners and students with IEPs, can fully participate.
  • Supervise and Support: Provide active supervision during lunch, recess, transitions, and field trips, ensuring safety and modeling respectful behavior in all school spaces.
  • Support Data and Organization: Assist with grading, data collection, student observations, and organization of materials to help maintain a high-functioning and responsive classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Education or related field preferred)
  • At least 2 years of classroom or instructional experience required, preferably in an urban or high-needs school setting
  • Demonstrated success leading whole group instruction, managing a classroom environment, and implementing instructional strategies that support diverse learners
  • Passion for education, equity, and building inclusive learning communities
