Elementary Teacher Pool - Garrett County Public Schools - GCPS

Location: All Garrett County Elementary Schools – Grades 1-6

Full-time, exempt position with 187 workdays per year (generally 7.6 hours per day, may vary based on system needs).

About the Role

The teacher will provide essential academic instruction, develop, implement, and supervise appropriate program-related activities to help students develop and demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes.

Salary

Unit I Teacher Blueprint Career Ladder Salary Scale ($60,010–$69,169), commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

• Eligible for an applicable teaching certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education in Elementary Education
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (students, staff, administration, parents, community agencies, etc.)
• Proficiency in a variety of technologies and applications
• Ability to manage confidential information and materials
• Demonstrated initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgment
• Attention to detail, especially regarding student safety and well-being
• Professionalism and strong work ethic
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
• Master’s Degree or higher in an applicable field from an accredited college or university
• Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience in early childhood and/or elementary education

Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly lessons, assignments, and instructional materials
• Establish clear goals and learning objectives aligned with student needs, curriculum framework, and human growth and development
• Prepare, administer, and correct assessments, recording results
• Select and use approved curriculum and instructional strategies, including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling, and multimedia teaching aids
• Evaluate student progress using appropriate assessment techniques
• Maintain classroom order and discipline conducive to effective learning
• Implement safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Create a classroom environment that fosters student involvement and achievement of learning objectives
• Counsel students on academic and behavioral issues
• Confer with parents and students regarding progress; arrange and participate in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences
• Serve on school-based committees as needed
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school, programs, law, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedure
• Account for and order classroom equipment and supplies
• Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and professional development
• Improve skills and knowledge in subject matter, trends, research, methodology, technology, multicultural content, and problem-solving strategies
• Plan and supervise assignments for substitutes and volunteers
• Contribute to the success of students, staff, school, and the system
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Engage in lifelong learning through workshops, professional publications, networking, and professional organizations
• Present a courteous and professional demeanor
• Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability, and a positive attitude
• Perform other duties as assigned
