Qualifications

  • Certified in subject area
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Student teaching, substitute teaching, or teaching in private school experience
  • Alternate qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education

About the Role

Reports to: Principal or supervisor
Supervises: Students in class

Job goal: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times
  • Plans a program of study tailored to individual student needs, interests, and abilities
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request
  • Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with location limitations and student needs
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals through instruction and action
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities and seeks assistance from district specialists when needed
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Develops and maintains fair and reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and evaluates their performance cooperatively with department heads
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Schedule

Ten-month year. Salary and work year established by the EHEA contract.
