Crossroads Charter Schools is looking for highly effective, highly qualified, and highly motivated individuals to join our organization. Ideal candidates will have experience in urban education and be committed to our four core values: High Expectations, Real World Learning, Creative Culture, and Equity.

About the School

At Crossroads Charter Schools, we:

  • Develop school environments where all students are actively and meaningfully engaged in rigorous instruction and authentic learning tasks.
  • Interrupt the “school to prison pipeline” – policies and practices that are directly and indirectly pushing the most at-risk students out of school and on a pathway to the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
  • Engage families as partners in meaningful ways.
  • Nurture an open, collaborative, and trusting environment because the work is enormous, deeply personal, emotional, and often difficult.
  • Engage in on-going job-embedded professional development through co-teaching and co-planning.

About the Role

The primary responsibilities are to provide support in the instructional process by serving as a facilitator of learning, developing lesson plans, and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines. The role involves collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address classroom and school issues, as well as responding to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding academic and social-emotional issues.

The ideal candidate has experience with the workshop model and project-based learning. The teacher must be hardworking, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic, with excellent subject knowledge and a sound understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core Standards. The teacher collaborates with staff to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students, accommodating special needs, diversity, and varying educational backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Establish weekly objectives that align with the Common Core and Missouri Learning Standards.
  • Facilitate “hands-on” activities and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
  • Use discipline models of BIST and Love & Logic to maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment.
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as honoring deadlines and schedules.
  • Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate.
  • Demonstrated success in urban education.
  • Experience with the workshop model and project-based learning is ideal.
  • Must pass an extensive background check.

Skills

  • Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups informed.
  • Ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to a broad and diverse group of people.
  • Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to perform assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers.
  • Desire to continue professional development.

Key Working Relationships

  • Direct Supervisor: Principal or designee.
  • Teachers, students, parents, volunteers, office staff, support staff, assistant principals, principals, district leadership team, and central office team.

Both federal and state law requires all public school personnel to submit to and pass a criminal background check prior to employment. Crossroads Charter Schools is required by law to exclude from employment any person who has pleaded to or been found guilty of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude under the laws of the State of Missouri, any other state, or any other country, unless a sentence was not imposed. Conviction of a crime not listed above is not an automatic disqualification; the school will consider the nature of the offense and its relationship to the position.
