Compensation: Starting at $64,000 annually with stipends up to $5,000 (certification required) and signing bonuses up to $4,000. Eligible teachers can earn up to $102,800 through the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) based on performance and student growth.

About the Role

When you join the YES Prep team, you will play an integral role in guiding Life Skills teachers toward success with their students and student achievement through classroom culture and management, instructional planning, and delivery. Some of the exciting work and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute the vision for Alternate Instruction at YES Prep to lead toward jaw-dropping student achievement results, while maximizing inclusive practices.
  • Manage YSTEP units, including procuring resources, managing budget, creation of Community-Based Instruction, and refinement and execution of SpEd Program Vision.
  • Support the management of SHINE units, including lesson planning support and creation of CBIC.
  • Collaborate with Assessment to ensure YSTEP/SHINE teachers execute TELPAS and STAAR ALT Assessments.
  • Observe classroom instruction of teachers and provide developmentally appropriate coaching via written and oral feedback (as identified by the Special Education Instructional Excellence Rubric/Teaching Excellence Rubric).
  • Assist teachers in collecting and analyzing student performance data to drive instructional decisions.
  • Provide lesson planning support to YSTEP/SHINE teachers.
  • Arrange opportunities for novice teachers to co-observe master teachers.
  • Plan and deliver focused lessons in novice teachers’ classrooms to model effective practices.
  • Communicate regularly and engage in collaboration with campus SpEd Manager, Director of Academics/Assistant Principals, and content leaders to align feedback and support.
  • Facilitate professional learning sessions throughout the school year.
  • Manage a team of YSTEP and SHINE Special Education Curriculum Writers and PD Facilitators.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience with Life Skills programming or similar settings.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
  • At least 3 years of exemplary Special Education teaching experience.
  • Outstanding record of student achievement results.
  • Hold a valid Texas Educator Special Education Certification.
  • Hold a valid Texas Educator Certification in Core Content.
  • Belief in and commitment to the mission and core value of YES Prep Public Schools.
  • Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish).
  • Experience with teacher supervision (as a department head, mentor, or coach).
  • Strong knowledge of contributing factors that lead to an effective Life Skills teacher.
  • Experience planning and delivering professional development to adults.
  • Experience teaching Life Skills at both the elementary and secondary levels.
